Miss Stansfield has been running boarding welfare sessions on a Tuesday evening with Oak House. The key themes they are looking at are: fostering positive relationships, valuing self-reflection, encouraging resilience and boosting self-esteem.
I am delighted to introduce myself as the new House Mistress for Oak House. My name is Emma Bailey and I have worked at QE for a year and a half, in various age groups and genders across the site, meaning I have had the pleasure of working with many siblings of my current boys.
When I arrived, I wanted to instil a sense of self-pride and good manners in our boys and so I created our stars and crosses board. To gain stars, we encourage the boys to use politeness, helpfulness and kindness with their peers and staff, and negating these can cause them to gain red crosses. Red crosses are also given for basic defiance, such as if they are out of bounds at bedtime. Each half term, the board is rubbed clean so that the boys can start afresh, no matter how many stars or crosses they earned before. All stars and crosses are recorded in our office and the person with the most stars come the end of the each term and the year will receive a prize! Please do not hesitate to contact me via the junior boarding email address if you wish to discuss anything about your child this term.
Message from Mr Mc Anernay:
It has been an extremely busy and exciting time here in Oak House. This term started with a bang, (quite literally) with our annual Bonfire Night celebrations. It was great to see the smiles on the students’ faces as they witnessed what I feel is Yorkshire’s finest firework display. From that fantastic start, the term has just got better and better. The boys have engaged in many games of football, watched some big Champions League games, baked Christmas treats and decorated the house for Christmas. I would like to take this opportunity to wish yourselves and all the students a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Room Tidiness: This term has shown the boys make a huge effort on their room tidiness. We have all been extremely impressed and proud of their efforts. Christmas Social: The boys had a wonderful Christmas Social this term in the dance studio and half-time room. They had lots of food, drink and sweets. The dance floor was never empty throughout the night with the boys putting into practice the moves they learned on ‘Just Dance’ this term. There was a special VIP guest who arrived in a wonderful red suit to delivery sweets to all students. October was another busy but exciting month for the students in Oak House. The students enjoyed watching the Rugby World Cup and particularly enjoyed seeing England’s successes. In addition, to this we had national boarding day where the boys took part in an Oak House pentathlon; this event was a great success and the boys really enjoyed it. During October, due to a change in the weather and dark nights, we offered the boys the opportunity to engage in some fitness-based activities. This is something they really enjoyed and we will be looking to continue through the winter months.
September saw the introduction of Oak House to Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate and the boys have really responded well and made it a house to be proud off. During September, staff took the opportunity to get involved with the students and run plenty of activities to help the boys bond as a group. We took advantage of the good weather, throughout the month, to engage in activities such as football, outdoor play and even had a BBQ during the closed weekend. It has been great to see the boys come together as a house and the atmosphere throughout the month has been wonderful with the boys engaging in many intense and competitive games of football!
