Message from Mr Mc Anernay:
It has been an extremely busy and exciting time here in Willow House. This term started with a bang, (quite literally) with our annual Bonfire Night celebrations. It was great to see the smiles on the students’ faces as they witnessed what I feel is Yorkshire’s finest firework display. From that fantastic start, the term has just got better and better. The girls have engaged in a wide variety of in-house activities. We have baked ginger bread houses, made Christmas decorations, been swimming, had outdoor play and also all the excitement of our Christmas Social. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members of our Queen Ethelburga’s community a happy and peaceful holiday season.
This term we have seen numerous students win awards in Willow House. These have included boarder of the week, tidiest room and also the house as a whole won the best decorated boarding house in Q.E.
The girls had a wonderful Christmas Social this term in the dance studio and half-time room. They had lots of food, drink and sweets. The dance floor was never empty throughout the night. There was a special VIP guest who arrived in a wonderful red suit to deliver sweets to all students.

October was again an action packed month in Willow House, with the students engaged in lots of activities on the evenings and weekends. This year there have been great opportunities for staff to really interact with the students and put in place plenty of activities. The students have responded strongly to this and have bought into having a community-feel in the house. The highlight of October was our pumpkin carving competition; all students were able to get involved in this, creating drawings of the designs they would like to see created. Staff then selected the best (and most feasible) of these and created them alongside the students. We also took the opportunity to make the most of the end of the last bright nights with some outdoor, planned activities.
September saw the introduction of Willow Boarding House to Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate and the girls have settled extremely well and gone from strength to strength. The girls, along with the staff, have spent a lot of this month engaged in activities and it has been wonderful to see the family atmosphere that has been created in house. Highlights in September included: plenty of outdoor play; team building activities and milkshake nights. These activities helped to create strong friendships within the house and as a result the girls spend most of their time on an evening together as a group rather than their own rooms.
